Hey Everyone,

My name is Cree. I'm 24 (soon to be 25), married, poly, bi-sexual, new to fat acceptance, and still trying to figure out my life. I am childless by choice, and plan to live out my life in that way. I am a diet survivor, and the F-word has been a great source for me. I've always been ashamed of being fat, but what made me different from others was I always demanded to be respected. As disconnected as it sounds, I never realized how much of my life (and my fellow fattie's) was centered around not respecting myself and therefore missing out on so many things because of it. I almost didn't get married because of my weight.

I've tried to take on a new look on life, and instead of constantly saying I can't do something because I'm fat, I just try anyway. Hopefully I won't get too burnt along the way. Not to say I'm completely recovered, but I am working towards loving myself every day.

I currently live in Georgia, and am from there. My grandmother raised me and my parents abandoned me. I'm a victim of child abuse and am thankful I have gotten as far in life as I have. I consider myself Jewish, though most wouldn't, and I am extremely liberal and open-minded. I love the paranormal and am a complete geek (D&D player, sci-fi/fantasy lover, etc.).

I think that's about it for this post. Feel free to ask anything you would like, I'm pretty free with my answers.

Hi!

Nice to have you here! Who are your favorite writers, paranormal, fantasy, etc?

I'm totally into Monsterquest, Ghost Hunters, and Fortean Times.

My favorite writer of all time is Terry Pratchett.

Hello and welcome!

I am also childless by choice. I would be interested to know if you get any "flack" for this. I am 40, and I know that I sure do. It's just another "quit commenting on my life and by body" thing that I have to live with.

I haven't read a lot of paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi yet. I just found the genres recently, as I grew up in a kind of weird situation. Ghost Hunters, Babylon 5, Firefly, Stargate (both the original and Atlantis) is what got me going. My husband is also the one to introduce those to me. He's really into Terry Pratchett though. I haven't read any yet, but he keeps bugging me about it. Hopefully I'll get to it soon. lol

I get a ton of slack yes. Especially since I'm only 24, everyone thinks it's the perfect time. My husband and I just aren't interested. I've personally never had a moment where I was like "wow, I want to be a mother". It is a requirement of mine, also, that whomever I'm in a relationship is able to deal with the fact I will not be having children.

I'm also childless by choice. I love my friends' kids and my niece and nephews, but I've never had any desire to have my own kids. This really blows the minds of some people; they can understand my husband not wanting kids, but I always get the patronizing "Oh, you'll change your mind later." I might, but it's not likely. Luckily I can now point to a new study that shows married couples without kids are happier than married couples with kids.

I don't even have to read the study to tell you that married without children is happier than married with. But, I'll read it anyway...

I get the most flack from my mom and my brother/sister in law. My mom thinks that I am afraid to do it. My brother thinks that I'm supposed to do it (religious).

I have two friends right now that are in baby mode. One is adopting from Russia after much dissappointment in medical intervention and a few miscarriages. The other is waiting to ovulate so she can go get her first round of IUI. I am truly happy for them both, but it's just not for me or my husband.

I also think that if either of us went the other way and did want kids that I would have them by now...

I have definitely always heard the "you'll change your mind" or "don't worry, you won't mess them up!" or whatever other encouragement. People just don't seem to understand. As far as feminism has come, I know we're never fully there when people cannot grasp the concept that we're genetically embedded with the desire to procreate. I understand that most people feel that we /should/ have children, based on religious beliefs and what not, but they doesn't mean we're programmed to have that trait and have no free will to make the decision on our own.

I've actually been looking into sterilization. I'm aware that most doctors won't even consider it before the age of 25. I am turning 25 in August, so I'm going to begin looking for someone who will help me. Being sterilized is something I've known I've wanted all my life. I do not want to be pregnant. If later I decide I want a kid, I can always adopt. Perhaps that's another thing people don't understand. It does not matter to me one bit if a kid has my and my husband's DNA running through it's body. Blood doesn't mean shit. If I adopt a kid, it's mine, I will love it forever, and just because it's adopted doesn't make it a second class citizen or not as good as a kid who was typically conceived.

Anyway, went on a bit of a rant there. Sorry! haha.
