Open post: All things Christmas

posted in Administrative, Rachel |

Merry Christmas to our Christmas-celebrating readers from all of us at The-F-Word (and from my bunnies, Harry and Henry).  Posting may be light over the next few days as we take this time to spend with friends and family and play with all our new toys and gadgets.  In the meantime, use this as an open post to discuss all things Christmas.  Does your family have any special traditions?  Any Christmas cookie recipes to share?  What was the worst gift you ever received? The best?

    Hi! Happy holidays to you!
My best gifts were last year, when my boyfriend gave me an ebook reader and then proposed on the beach(with a ring, not with the ebook reader, although that would have worked too!) For me, there’s no such thing as a bad gift, it’s the thought that counts. Thanks for so many brilliant posts throughout the year, I look forward to reading more from you in 2010.

Cutest bunnies ever? I think so.

Hard to pick the best gift, I’ve received some really good ones over the past few years. And I have yet to get a bad gift, so I have nothing to complain about :)

My worst gift this year was one of those 3-in-1 Softie wraps. I’d been going on about how stupid Snuggies are because you could just turn your robe backwards and have pretty much the same thing. Softies are along the same lines but with zippers so it can be a flat blanket too. I feel bad for saying so, but I really hate that thing. :(

This year, the best gift by far was from my mom. I’d mentioned in passing when I was home for Thanksgiving that I’d lost my cookbook binder during a move (it housed copied recipes, computer printouts and the like) My mom scanned pages from her dilapidated cookbook she’s had since she was 16, her hand copied recipes, one of which I’d gotten to with those stamp markers when I was 9 or 10, and printed them out, and gave them to me in a binder. Even copied they bring back so many happy memories from my childhood. By far one of the best presents I’ve ever gotten.

@Geri: Congrats! A wonderful gift, indeed!

@Shinobu: I agree — those snuggies are kind of hokey to me, too, but my mom actually wanted one for Christmas (my sister got it for her). What I find utterly ridiculous are those snuggies for dogs! Sheesh…

@DaniFae: Wow, what a thoughtful gift! It’s gifts like that that you remember for a lifetime. Hopefully you’ll share a few of your favorite recipes from the collection :)

And yes, they are really cute and sweet bunnies. I took that pic one afternoon while taking a break from work as a kind of joke for my husband. I was so anxious to upload it and send it to him that I forgot to take the Santa hat off the white bunny. I then left for a hair appointment a few hours later and called the hubby to ask him to put the bunnies back in their pen. It was some five hours since the pic and the white bunny still had the Santa hat on (he didn’t seem to care).
