Blogroll update

Blogroll update

posted in Administrative, Rachel |

So, I did some blogroll housekeeping this morning and removed some blogs that haven’t been updated in a long while or are no longer active. Sadly, there were a couple blogs that went from being pro-body acceptance to actively pro-dieting, so I deleted those, too. I also added a few new blogs to the list:

Rachel, I turned my blog private for a short time but am turning it back to public. So I’d still like to be part of the ED blog list. It’s just been a bit crazy here.

Okay. Just let me know when it’s public again and I’ll add it to the list!

My sister has a pretty awesome body-image blog, Medicinal Marzipan, at http://www.medicinalmarzipan.com, and though its not actively a fat acceptance/rights blog, it illustrates her relationship with her body and has a weekly round-up of other body-image or interesting blog posts.

Shapely Prose is into both feminism and body acceptance. I didn’t see it on the blogroll (forgive me in advance if I just didn’t spot it).

It was on there until quite recently. I removed it when Kate removed both the Fatosphere feed and any and all links to other blogs and websites.

OK, I knew they were off the Fatosphere, but didn’t really compute that they had removed all links to other blogs, so I get it now…thanks.

Yes, I questioned the motivations of the “Queen of the Fatosphere” in removing SP from the Fatosphere feed, but it was really the complete removal of any and all links to related websites and blogs that led me to remove her link from my site.

I did not really question the motives behind removing SP from the Fatosphere feed because there are definitely some newish blogs on the sphere that I find perturbing and often inappropriate, and have read some pretty unfair attacks on SP, but I do find it weird that they no longer post related and helpful blogs such as yours anymore. It’s really too bad.

@Ruth: I have reason to believe that the removal wasn’t only because of Kate’s concerns about other new blogs on the feed, but I have no wish to get into all of that unpleasantness here. It’s Kate’s prerogative to do what she likes with her blog; I’m just disappointed to see her completely sever ties with the very community that helped make her the success she is. No blog, even one as popular as SP, is an island.

The primary focus of the blog is healthy living. Most of the content stems from overcoming disordered eating and how the author learned to eat intuitively. There’s a high focus on fitness = and true, some of the author’s personal motivation to be so athletic is to “look good” – but in her discussions, she places priority on fitness as a means of staying healthy and challenging oneself, not as a means of weight control. She dismisses diets (actually wrote a good post about why they don’t work, from an evolutionary perspective), tells readers to pitch their scales, and promotes the idea of health at any size. In fact, her site is how I discovered Operation Beautiful, and sometimes she shares stories from readers across the continuum who are learning to love their bodies and be healthy. I’ve actually posted links to your site, on her site because sometimes you both post the same content (e.g. the discussion about that Ralph Lauren ad).

You’re welcome to add mine to the blogroll. http://fatheffalump.wordpress.com

It’s just me, talking about my journey through size/fat acceptance and life as a single, 35+ fatty.

Hey Rachel, just an FYI that a few of the links up there are broken. Bl@q G!rl With An Ed takes me to Life with Cake, and Operation Beautiful takes me to The Thinking Junction. Now, I’ve got to get to reading about 50 new blogs :)

Or, nevermind, I could just go to the sidebar and check out the links instead of trying to click on the ones in this post.

Wow. I am very flattered and touched that you chose to include my blog in this post and promote it on your site! Thank you so much and I really hope someone out there can benefit from my story and my advice. I briefly read the message I wast sent over WBB, and I would love to contribute to this site as a guest blogger some day soon! I shall write back and tell you more. Thanks again! =)

Hi, like I have said before in my last post – I have been a fan of your blog for a long time. I am a fat 21 year old. I have been fat since I was a child. I really enjoy your blog because you are very well studied and clever. (you haven’t really posted responses to me so I am not quite sure what you think of me)

I have just started making a blog as well… Not really about weight issues – yet, but it’s intention is to deal with problems Muslims will face in life, including size discrimination (such in my experience, elder women had bothered my mother-in-law because they perceived I had gained weight – a lot of Muslims I have connections with are from India, a place that may just be harder to live in as a fat girl than America.)

I am not entirely sure why you did not reply to my post (whether you don’t like something about what I wrote or something or you just didn’t notice) but if there is a problem let me know.

    This is my blog

Please let me know what you think.
