Win it: “Rethinking Thin” by Gina Kolata
The New Year’s weight loss self-flagellations resolutions are returning in gale force again. Why not trade in those tired (and probably oft-repeated) resolutions for something more purposeful and constructive? Like, say, a copy of Rethinking Thin by New York Times science writer Gina Kolata. That’s right. I’m giving away not one, but TWO hardback copies of the book to two lucky readers now through Dec. 13.
Interested? Details and entry form after the jump

Rethinking Thin examines society’s obsession with dieting and fitness and makes a strong critique of the multi-billion dollar weight-loss industry. By tracking different dieters and fads, Kolata tackles such issues as why dieting hopefuls often lose only money on commercial diet programs, why we’re so fat even as there’s so much social pressure to be thin, the importance of genes in determining weight and how psychological and biological factors affect weight. Kolata earned her bachelor’s degree in microbiology and her master’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Maryland. She studied molecular biology at M.I.T. in a Ph.D. program. Check out a proper review of the book here. Regular readers may recall this interview I conducted with Gina here after the book’s release in late 2007.
The Fine Print: To enter, you must be a resident of the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico (sorry, international readers; I’m the one forking out shipping costs and I’ve got a furlough coming up). Only one entry per person. The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. EST Sunday, Dec. 13. Two winners will be chosen on Monday, Dec. 14, announced on the blog and contacted by email for shipping directions.
The contest has now ended and the winners notified. Thanks for entering!
