Help a reporter out: Fat women and healthcare

I got the note below from a reporter looking for help with a story.  Sadly, judging from the many stories sent to First, Do No Harm (a blog I co-edit), I’m sure there’s at least a few people out there with these kinds of experiences.

My name is Ginny Graves, and I’m writing an article for HEALTH magazine that includes some information about how overweight and obese women may receive shoddy or insulting care from doctors. I was wondering if you or anyone you know has had this experience and would like to share the story with the magazine. I have a number of stories from obese women, but I’m interested in getting some anecdotes from women who are overweight — BMI 25 or higher. I’d be grateful for the help.

Anyone who’s interested in talking could send me an e-mail at glgraves@comcast.net.

I spoke with her on the phone about an experience I had. She’s very very nice.

I did too. She’s very nice and really wants to help by publicizing some of the challenges we face. If you have a story please contact her!
