Need a Valentine?

Brandon and I are among the Valentine’s Day humbugs who think the day to be a forced commercial holiday bought-and-paid for by Hallmark and devoid of any significant meaning. We usually ignore it and choose to show our love for each other in our own way and on our own schedule. Still, its hard to avoid the Valentine’s hoopla when it seems as if corporate America is shoving it down your throat. Those unfortunate singles who’ve missed Cupid’s mark are made to feel depressed and lonely, while for those who are in relationships, the pressure to go out and spend! spend! spend! on outrageously-priced flowers, waxy chocolate and cheesy greetings cards can be overwhelming.

Valentine’s Day? Bah humbug!

I know that not everyone is such a Valentine’s Day cynic, so I thought I’d try and make something of the day. A messageboard I am a member of is doing a “Valentine’s Swap,” in which participating members are assigned another member to send a card and small token of appreciation to and vice versa. I thought it to be a fun idea and wanted to offer something similar here. If you’d like to receive a Valentine, I will send you one. Just contact me either via private message via the messageboard or by email with your name and address and I’ll drop a special Valentine to you in the mail. Remember, Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14, so depending on where you live, I’d need your addresses by at least Feb. 10 or so.
