Administrative update

I took a much needed vacation from work this past week and as it turns out, the internet too. We don’t celebrate Christmas with Brandon’s immediate family until this weekend and we’re making my niece a doll house as a gift. If you’ve ever put one together, you know that even the small doll house kits have a bazillion pieces that all need measured, cut, sanded and painted and contain dozens of instructions to assemble. I enlisted Brandon’s help because my ADD brain tends not to read directions past, oh, step one and I want it to at least somewhat resemble the picture on the box. Heck, Brandon creates detailed manuals like this as part of his job and even he messed up a couple of the steps. Let’s just say that if you ever need to build something, sticks of hot glue gun construction glue are second only to cement. We’ve got most of the house assembled now (and properly!) and now I just need to do the trim work and interior details, like carpet, base board and crown molding and fun stuff like curtains and pictures… all before tomorrow morning.

So, sorry for the blogging hiatus, but it was great to recharge and reconnect as we enter the New Year. I’m back to work today, but inbox has some hundreds of emails in it and my voicemail is full and I still have to plan out the independent study I’m doing for my graduate work this quarter (nailing down a theme for it would be a start). So I’m online again but probably won’t be back to blogging as usual until Monday. I will announce the winner of the “Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters” book giveaway later this afternoon, though, so stay tuned. Thanks and I hope everyone had a great New Year’s celebration!

So I’m not the only one who took a short break. Mr. Twistie and I went on the road to visit some friends last week and wound up having both time and wi-fi access on one night when we were both pretty zonked. I checked to see that nothing had burned down the internet, and went to sleep.

I am in dire need of a break right now, and the bills are preventing me from doing so. I’m glad that you were able to take a break!

My ADD brain gets bogged down on intensive instructions as well. As long as there are pictures for me to follow that somewhat resemble what I’m supposed to be building, I’m great!

I was suffering from writer’s block before my Christmas break and I thought that more than a week off work would make all the difference. It didn’t. I think I’m even more brain dead now than when I went on vacation! This is especially not good considering that it’s also the first week of classes and I’m taking a full-time course load this quarter!
