The Digest: Politics, feminism, eating disorders, milestones and more
It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., so posting will be light over the next few days. Here are a bunch of links to see you through the weekend:

Sen. Barack Obama made history last night as the first African-American to be nominated by a major party for the presidency. Go here to see his acceptance speech or read it here.
Today, Sen. John McCain announced little-known Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate in an obvious bid to win over Hillary supporters and to balance out what he calls Obama’s “race card.” But though Palin has fallopian tubes, the staunch pro-life, anti-gay governor — like her running mate — is no friend to feminism. Read more about her stance on the issues here and here.

Paul at Big Fat Blog takes on Alabama’s decision to penalize even healthy obese workers by making them pay a $300-annual health insurance premium. Read the takes of Paul and other BFB members here and the full story here.
Susan Stinson and Body Impolitic both remember author and celebrated lesbian rights activist Del Martin, who died on Wednesday.

If complications from eating disorders and/or recovery has you in medical debt, check out CNN’s five great recommendations on how to better manage escalating medical bills.
Would you take a drug for weight loss if it made you dumb as a rock? That’s the question asked by Charlynn over at The-F-Word’s sister-blog The Disordered Times. Read and join in on the discussion here.
Eating disorders activist Laura Collins is attending the National Eating Disorders Association’s annual conference in Austin next month and she wants to bring your recipes — for either real food or your family’s story of weathering an eating disorder in recipe form — with her. Go here for details.
Following on the heels of last week’s discussion of the increasing (and often illegal) use of AD/HD drug Adderall for weight loss, I found this PostSecret submission both amusing and a bit sad at the same time.

I’ve added a couple new blogs to the Eating Disorders Digest feed over the past few weeks. Check them and the more than 20 other fabulous blogs out here.
Babble’s Lindsay unleashes absolutely shocking revelations about the Fatosphere.
Marianne of the blog The Rotund speaks out against the thin British nanny-state with an editorial published in The Guardian.

Mo Pie shows her age in a discussion of how the new svelte 90210 cast compares with the fuller-figured cast of the 90s.
Alessandra Stanley of The New York Times delivers the skinny on the rising popularity of weight-loss television shows in the American landscape. Writes Stanley: “These plus-size transformations are spellbinding, admirable and even enviable, but they are also teases, making impossible transformations seem just a commitment away.”
Jezebel wonders why fashion designers continue to shoot themselves in the foot by not making clothes that the majority of cash-waving customers can actually wear. Read the Wall Street Journal story that inspired the post here.

Congratulations to Morgan of the blog Fatgrrl.com, who married her Canadian geek on Wednesday in a Vegas-style affair.
A belated congratulations to Colleen at Pretty Pear, who celebrated 5-years of plus-size fashion blogging bliss last month!

Discuss any of the above in the comments below. Have a great holiday weekend, everyone.
