‘Yogurt: What else could a woman possibly need?’

posted in Feminist Topics, Food News |

ThinkTank member Mychii shared this video on her Facebook profile. What is it about women and yogurt anyway?

“Yogurt eaters come from every race, but just one socio-economic class. The class that wears grey hoodies. It’s that ‘I have a Master’s but then I got married’ look.”

I never thought of yogurt-eating as being connected to my gender. I eat it because I enjoy it and my body doesn’t have an adverse reaction to it – my husband eats it more often than I do, for the same reasons. I realize that yogurt is marketed to women on TV, and, connectedly, some yogurts are associated with BigWeightLo$$Industry, but I’m not sure I want to further those connections!

Maybe women eat more yogurt because their doctors are on their cases to get more calcium? I eat the plain, full-fat stuff after I exercise because I have to eat something to keep my blood sugar from plummeting. And any flavored yogurt is just too sweet.

I laughed so hard at this video. I always hated it those “it’s **** good” ones. Ugh, way to pigeon hole and stereo type.

I’ve heard a similar rumor about cottage cheese. Apparently, you have to have XX chromosomes to fathom eating cottage cheese.

Oh. My. God. That was the funniest thing I have seen a long time!! I especially loved her dancing around with the commercials. Now I have to go send this to every woman I know! Ha!

I loved her dancing around with the commercials, too. “I’m gonna sh** my pants!” Priceless!

I sent this to my skinny (male!!! I kid you not!!!) DF and he thought it was fantastic.

For the record, I have an MA, and zip up hoodies make me cringe. Something about the noise the zipper makes, and the gross feel of a cheap metal zipper. Ugh. ;)

I’m not a big fan of hoodies, either :)

I eat yogurt occasionally, but I’ve never seemed to have the orgasmic reaction the women on the yogurt TV commercials have. Has yogurt – along with cottage cheese and salad – been officially lost to the bastions of “diet” food?

Thank God someone else is making fun of yogurt commercials. Every time my roomate and I see one we want to shoot ourselves in the face. Ugh.

I never connected yogurt eating to gender because we all eat yogurt here.
But it definately shows in the commercials doesn’t it!

    I ‘m still chuckling.

I’ve eaten yogurt for years (and I wear hoodies in the winter, but I don’t own any gray ones), largely because I don’t like drinking milk.

But just like anything, there’s yogurt, and there’s diet yogurt (ditto for cottage cheese). The new Dannon Light N Fit! isn’t real food. Can’t be. It’s glop in a plastic carton. And those little 4 oz containers? That’s an appetizer for my *cat*. Who also likes yogurt but doesn’t wear hoodies.

I ABHOR those stupid “it’s ______ good” commercials. So much so that I change the channel as quickly as possible when one comes on. Are you listening, Yoplait? I hate your commercials! Your ad campaign? Ce n’est PAS si bon !

It kind of bugs me how they lumped Fiber One in with the digestive health yogurts when it isn’t one, Fiber One just makes a lot of high fiber foods.

I haven’t seen any of the “It’s ___ good” commercials in ages, are they still airing them?

Geez, this seems to be the day for stumbling across irreverent yogurt references! On the subject of which:

    hilarious!

my first thought is that women and yogurt are put together because of the beneficial bacteria helping to stave off yeast infections.

*cracking up over here* Oh, that was good. *wipes tear of laughter away* Btw, I love hoodies. I own several. I even own a gray one. I washed one of my boyfriend’s hoodies in super hot water and then threw it in the dryer so it would shrink too small for him and I could steal it for myself. But I don’t eat a lot of yogurt. When I do, it’s full of fat and fruit and granola and lots of other good stuff.

This cracks me up every time. I’m a PhD student with no master’s degree. I don’t own a grey hoodie. I’m married, but that was before the PhD program and my husband eats yogurt (and cottage cheese) too. We’re freaks, apparently.

Carrie, my cat also likes yogurt. I stopped buying the no-fat/no-sugar/no-real ingredient stuff when I realized that he would eat real yogurt (full fat, real sugar) but not the mass-market diet crap. If he wouldn’t eat it (and he eats bugs voluntarily), then I probably shouldn’t be eating it either. Smarter than me about the food, he was.

Hehhee. I DO love yogurt though. I tend not to go for all the frilly sweet ones. Plain old greek or plain yogurt for me.

Way belatedly because I just found this blog today … if they must make these commercials, where’s the “it’s ‘I just pwned the last boss’ good” part? Or is that not girly enough?

    (I actually can’t stand yogurt, but …)
